Looking Backward – Looking Forward

I’m meeting with my Mastermind Group  next week. I’m sort of dreading it because we use our December meeting to report on how well we met the goals we set for the year. I’m way down on the dollar amount.

Some of my decrease in income is due to the economy – I’m glad it’s struggling upward.

But part, and probably most of the reason for the decrease in my income was the beginning of a change in direction for me. As some of you know, I’ve got a video class going called Getting Your Book Written With Vision & Spirit. It turned out to be much more time consuming and challenging than I had expected, but it was a major goal of mine and I got it done. I learned a ton and will be launching the class again sometime next year – you can get early notice if you like.

The upcoming class with Carol Tice called 40 Ways To Market Your Writing is another example of a shift for me. (The class happens Dec. 7, 2010.)

Other things that are going on is a couple of new blogs, the relaunch of one that I haven’t been paying attention and the redesign of this one. I’m also starting to focus more on offering coaching and mentoring. So I am again in transition. Which is probably why I love the saying that ‘change is the only constant.’

I hadn’t recognized that, in one sense, I was actually preparing for a big decrease in my income.

The reason, of course, to look back, at least as far as I’m concerned, is to be able to look forward with more clarity.

I’m really excited at the direction my writing and I seem to be headed. I’ll be doing more coaching and more writing for me, in new blogs, reselecting old blogs, and even a book or two.

I’ve spend some serious time creating a new business plan. I’ve been putting some income goals to it, but I’ve got more work to do. I’m really looking forward to our MasterMind meeting in January. That’s when we talk about our plans for the new year.

That will be much more fun.

The end of one year and the beginning of a new one are, I think, an ideal time for this kind of introspection.

What are your goals and intentions for next year?

I need to do more marketing. I have 8 plays written and only one currently in production (early next year). I’m feeling a bit isolated from my theatre contacts. I also need to find a way to get some assistance. An agent would be a big help, but I’ve never had much luck with them.

    • Agents are a mixed bag in my experience, which has been only books.

I’m trying to build up my copywriting business so that in 2 years I can quit my full-time job that I currently have. As I have been pondering the goals I want to set, I’ve changing some of my thought process. At first, I had a goal to earn a certain amount of money. I’m changing to focus on writing so many words per day. The second thing I’m changing, is to focus on getting more clients. I figure that if I work on my writing skill and am earnestly seeking clients, then the money will follow.

And, thanks to your newsletter, I have found a couple of clients! Thanks for all of your time and effort that you put into it.
