Friday Fun For Freelance Writers

Can you believe it? Creative Copy Challenge is up to #86! Give it a try; it’s fun and builds writing muscle.

My own body and mind is telling me that I’ve worked hard this week. I’m feeling a bit stale. I think that’s why the ubiquitous ‘they’ invented weekends. To give us a change to regenerate, to re-create ourselves.

I was tempted to run off and find more word games or other computer based activities to list here when I heard my soul whisper something like “get out doors!”

“Ah ha!” I thought; I’ll create a writing exercise around doing something outside.

Then Mark Silver who has remarkable resources for any writer or other creative tweeted me reminding me of the carousel ride he and I and a couple of friends shared on the wonderful 1910 merry-go-round in Balboa Park in San Diego.

That’s the sort of fun I need, a total break in routine.

This weekend I’m going to take a long stroll on the beach down at Ocean Beach. It will probably be raining and I love the Pacific in the rain. I might even talk a teenage grandkid to come with me, or not.

So… tell us what you’re going to do this weekend for fun?

Recovering from my class 50th reunion. Walked too much. Ate too much. Ran into just 4 people I knew, one of whom is a neighbor, never knew him at school. Saw the place I was sitting when Kennedy was shot, the place I shook Nelson Rockefeller’s hand, and the place I first fell in love.

  • Thanks to you I just discovered the Creative Copy Challenge and spent the last 30 minutes or so having fun with Merlin and Medusa. It’s sort of like a CSA box where you have to figure out what to make out of the produce the farmer sent that week. What a great Saturday morning activity!

  • Getting together with childhood friends for “games night”!

Fall in Michigan means apple orchards…we’ll be picking in the morning and baking apple pies in the afternoon. YUM!

    • Hmmmm, no I don’t want to drive to Julian, CA today which isn’t that far… we have apples there about this time of year… a bit later I think.

  • San Diego beaches in the fall and winter are my favorite places. Me, I’m going to up my training for the 3 Day Walk-yikes only 4 weeks away-and maybe catch a movie.

Enjoy beautiful San Diego, Anne. I do miss it.

    • That’s right, you’re walking for the cure… good for you.
