Blogs, Freelance Writers and Money – Videos

Last week I participated in a panel discussion sponsored by the San Diego’s Society of Professional Journalists. The topic was creating blogs and websites that can make money for freelance writers. The discussion was moderated by pro reporter and author Seth Hettena. Other participants were our own Helen Chang, whom you know as a frequent guest here, and Caron Golden, another San Diego journalist, author and blogger.

We ended up with about an hour of raw video. SPJ member and all around talented woman Kathryn Borkoski volunteered to edit them, and broke the single video into four. Here is the first:

The second, which talks about content, although we were all over the map is at: http://www.youtube.com/user/kathyrocksit?feature=mhum#p/u/6/H0nzTLiAz8Y

We talked about getting started here: http://www.youtube.com/user/kathyrocksit?feature=mhum#p/u/5/A6UiDV1Rkoc

The final one is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/kathyrocksit?feature=mhum#p/u/4/qBYLgHw83X0

Now, please, remind me to smile more the next time I do something like this.

What would you have added?

Very nice. A good panel, very professional. Enjoyed it a lot.
The sound was barely audible at times, even with my knobs all turned up. I suspect the mike wasn’t properly positioned and set.
The camera operator wasn’t alert to the panelists’ obvious signals to pan to the video display, so it was hard to follow what they were talking about much of the time.

    • Jorge, actually the whole filming was on the fly… we just set the camera and let it run… not the best, but under the circumstances, perhaps, better than no video at all.
