Write For Scanning On The Web – Videos For Writers

We’re still very far from having screens that are as easy on the eye as paper. That’s the real reason people tend to scan webpages rather than read them. Knowing your reader will scan means a different sort of writing. This video outlines how to write for the scanning reader:

  • Anne-I find it kind of humorous that they have all these tips for webpages and use such an antiquated PowerPoint. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am a huge fan of Cliff Atkinson and his books Beyond Bullet Points/i>. Sorry – my own little quirk.

    But, I do change the way I write on the web. I have shorter paragraphs and more sub-headings. We definitely read differently online.

      Yeah, I wondered about that – but decided the info was worth it. Powerpoint is so, what, old fashioned?

        P.S. I thought I was so clever with my HTML on the previous comment and forgot to close off the italics. Maybe I’ll go back to PowerPoint’s simple bullets. ๐Ÿ™‚
