Polished Writing From The Start

Quotes to inspire writersI don’t write a quick draft and then revise; instead, I work slowly page by page, revising and polishing.

Thanks Tony – not my way of writing but I know it can work for some.

  • Anne, I use a hybrid approach. I listen to the writer and editor voice at the same time but I turn the volume down so that neither one takes complete control. It’s like hearing with peripheral hearing; they both pop in and out but it’s not a shouting match that short circuits my writing completely. Odd to explain, but I usually only have to go back and do one edit after this process. I don’t turn off the editor voice as some do during drafting.

    • What a great way to describe something I do too… want to do a guest article?

  • I used to do this, but good grief, I never got anything done. I literally used to edit as I typed. I still do it when I’m writing comments or posts! Better to bang out the first draft as fast as I can. Nothing is set in stone, especially on the computer.

Elizabeth, I suspect there’s some balance between editing as we’re typing and getting stuck editing forever. Sometimes I find it, sometimes not.
