Blog Action Day ’09 – Climate Change

I’ve posted here on environmental and political issues from time-to-time, sometimes to the distress of some of my readers. Apparently a few think I should only write about writing. Well darn!

Writers Can Help Slow Global Warming 7 Ways is one example that still stands. No, I don’t think its a total solution. Even if every writer on the planet did all seven things we’d barely make a dent in the problem.

Nor do I think that Blog Action Day will fix things either. At least not all at once and not without effort clear around the world, including the military and governments.

I do believe, however, that if we all work on the problem, and convince others to do the same, we have a chance.

Yes, there’s still time for you to sign up and participate.

Other writers who are taking part include:

Writing on the Wall, from the United Arab Emirates has posted Melting The Political Glaciers.

The Write Alley http://whisperdownthewritealley.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/blog-action-day-th-oct-15-2009-participate/

Arghhh – there are many many more. And I’m on deadline.

  • Right, Anne. It’s more a coincidence of interest than some massive conspiracy,. A few agencies that dole out government grants have bought into the “consensus” view–if you want to get a grant, you’d better say you believe that global warming is real or, better yet, “worse than we thought.” Amusingly, many scientific studies that have nothing to do with climate are also bowing to the fad and shoe-horning token mention of AGW into their papers. There are studies being published that contradict AGW, or state that is it exaggerated, but they are often privately funded and are refused by certain journals because of editorial policy. For example, the Editor of Climate Change Journal said: “…we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have.” (DISCOVER, OCTOBER 1989, Page 47). Al Gore said: “I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are…” (Grist, 09 May 2006).

Here’s a little tidbit from the UK Daily Mail site: http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1220052/Austria-sees-earliest-snow-history-America-sees-lowest-temperatures-50-years-So-did-global-warming-go.html

  • Anne, you will never benefit from this hoax. You can only lose. Al Gore is now worth about $100 million, based on income from “An Inconvenient Truth” and numerous speaking engagements at $100,000 a pop. “Generation Investment Management is an independent, private, owner-managed partnership with offices in London and New York. The firm was co-founded in 2004 by Al Gore and David Blood.” GIM has acquired a significant interest in Camco International Ltd, a carbon asset developer. Gore stands to make millions on this crap if Cap & Tax is enacted. His personal “carbon footprint?” Gigantic. But when did a politician ever think he had to adhere to the same standards he want to impose on the masses?

Like you and gwendolyn, I’m a recycling nut. I can’t stand to see like-new stuff tossed into the dumpster when it could be reused or recycled to make other useful things. I drive a car that gets 37 mpg. I’ve an interest in a small windfarm. But I am horrified to see our freedoms jeopardized by a phantom or overblown “enemy,” whether it’s global warming or terrorism or drugs or whatever.

Check out Michael Crichton’s “State of Fear” for the motivation behind Global Warming doom & gloom tactics. It’s a good read. For facts on the politics and science underlying AGW, see http://wattsupwiththat.com/

Or see http://www.climateaudit.org/ for detailed statistical information on flawed primary global warming studies.

BTW: “Over 4500 new snowfall, low temperature, and lowest maximum temperature records were set in the USA this last week.” –WUWT

    • Anne

Jorge, the idea that climate change is a Communist plot is what I reject here.

  • Hey thanks for the link!

Even if the previous commented is right, and anthropogenic climate change is a hoax (WHY is what I’d like to know), does it make sense for us to continue to consume like crazy and make so much junk that breaks down and has to go to a landfill?

    • Anne

I’m with you Gwendolyn and every time I see a giant trash truck here in San Diego I know we’re consuming/wasting too much. My understanding of a closed system is we’re shitting in our own nest.

And like you I can’t figure out how Al Gore, the Green Party and people like me are benefiting from a hoax… pushing fears around terrorism seem a much more effective way to gain control… sigh.

  • I’ve spent every day since October of last year getting deeply informed about Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW). I have six years of college, with courses in Chemistry, Physics, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Astronomy, and Astrophysics. After about 700 hours of study, my conclusion is that AGW is pseudoscience. There’s no direct proof that it exists. Computer models show that AGW may exist, but the models failed to predict the past ten years of declining satellite-measured temperatures, the recent two years running of increased Arctic ice extent, or the record Antarctic ice extent. The acid test for any model is: Can it predict? The models can’t do so, and are, therefore, useless. The so-called ‘scientific consensus’ is also bogus, being promoted by the same few ‘authorities’ by repetition, suppression of dissent, and by ignoring any skeptic evidence. Consensus is not science. Temperature rise in the 1990’s can be explained by natural oceanic cycles in combination with a solar grand maximum. The UN publications in this area are purely political. Al Gore had to pony up several million dollars fine for exposing UK school children to propaganda in his “Inconvenient Truth.” Read “State of Fear” by Michael Crichton for a very amusing summary of what’s really happening.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” –Joseph Goebbels
