I’ve been freelance for nearly ten years now but can’t seem to remember if things are usually really slow in the summer? Has that been your experience?
Things seem eerily quiet right now.
It’s always hard to say for sure and I don’t keep track very well. I do know we’re seeing 5-15 fewer job postings each time right now. Not an all time low for sure, but fewer than a couple of months ago.
Can be a slow time for freelancers, but it doesn’t have to be.
My ghostwriting, for example, seems to be getting the usual steady number of inquiries which is also holding true for another ghostwriting buddy of mine. One other writing friend who writes young adult books under contract has actually seen a slight increase. But note that the three of us are well established on our own niches.
You don’t say what kind of writing you do, but it might make sense to broaden what you offer and to look for new markets – easier said than done, I know.
But if you want to know what I do to keep the clients coming in, it’s simple. I have a strong faith in some sort of a higher power or creative intelligence or benign universe that is really the source for everything. When I remember that’s the source of my well being including abundance and not my clients, things seem to work a whole lot better.
OTOH, one of the writers I mentioned is an atheist, so there you have it. I perceive her as a woman of faith in the way stuff works, but she’d say she isn’t. Go figure.
