Lists of Professional Organizations For Writers – Resource Roundup Tuesday

[tuesday]I don’t know how many professional organizations there are out there for writers. I started to make a list for you and realized it would take days. Instead, here are five sites that do an excellent job. Sure, there’s some duplication, but amazingly each of the lists here has organizations, writers associations, clubs for writers, etc. that the others don’t.

Do you belong to any professional organizations? Which ones? What’s your experience been?

  • I belong to several writers’ organizations. Mystery Writers of America was on one of the lists. I’m also in Private Eye Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, American Independent Writers and the National Writers Union. Each of them has been useful to me, in some way (for networking, as an information resource or promotional help, to name a few things).

  • Belonging to PEN is one of the best experiences of my life. Truly transformational.

I’ve belonged to several other writers’ organizations and haven’t been satisfied, but won’t list them.

I’ve done some work with the Dramatists’ Guild, and they’re wonderful. I plan to join the National Writers Union and Broad Universe this year.
