Hi Anne,

I like your site. It is a great help reading your posts and pieces of advice for freelance writers like me. I started this kind of work in 2009 and it was in May this year that I decided to fully concentrate on it. I have also started a blog with blogger and you are right, I should have chosen WordPress instead. I thank you for coming up with a site like this. You are such a great help!

Hi Anne Wayman.
It has been a while but once, I told you about one of the job postings that you posted on here was actually a scam.
I was wondering about how did these writers became one of your guest bloggers on here? I was wondering because I would like to someday write on your site as well and unfortunately in my case, most of my income comes from content mill sites.
SO far, I have been physically active at a site called Biznik which is like Meetup. You get to meet the other biz owners in your local area by these different events and some people in my area got to know who I am.
In fact, a few did offer to send some of the clients who need a writer may want to send it my way if I get in touch with them in person. I got to meet some in person and so I learn to trust them as well.
I would like to move away from writing at content mill sites because since I have lots of experiences on writing articles, I believe that I deserve to get way more money per piece than what they are paying me right now.
I hope that this iis no bother and was wondering if you pay any of the guest blogger on your site or not. Thanks.

PS. I was able to take my 4 month old daughter with me at the event that was done on Tuesday. I would love to get paid at a lucrative amount per piece as well.

I hope to be a freelance writer when I grow up. I am doing a research paper on it and was hoping that you could provide me with info. on the benefits and disadvantages on the particular career. I hope you can find the time answer this I really am getting nowhere with research right now.

Agreed. I think anyone who is ever a little bit serious about making money writing needs a website and today that means a blog imo.

An editor asked if I had a blog or website where she could view my work as she’d never heard of me. I quickly set one up – took about half an hour – listed the 4 articles I’d had published, and sent it off. I never heard from her again, but I also sent it to other editors and got a job from that. It happened again this week. I wrote a blog post, emailed the link to an editor and said “You might be interested in this” and she commissioned the story.

I’ve been contacted by people googling certain topics – the latest being to assist a guy writing a book on something which I’d written 3000 word article about -, or googling me after reading one of my articles.

I’ve only been writing for 18 months. I strongly recommend a blog, even if it’s just to post a CV and a phone/email. It makes you accessible and accountable. First thing people do these days is google anybody they don’t know.

Bots can harvest hundreds of eddresses from websites every hour. They are ultimately sold to junk mail devotees. Some blogistas try to prevent a surge in their junk mail when they post their eddress, by using a format something like this:

anne{at}aboutfreelancewriting{dot}com

This makes it a little trickier for the bots. The correspondent has to change the {at} to @ and the {dot} to . , but it only takes a few seconds.
