| Dan Poynter almost started the self-publishing
revolution when he published the first edition of this must-have
book back in 1979. Dan knows what he’s talking about because he’s
published his own books, including this one. The book is currently
in its 14th edition – he’s
obviously doing something right.
His understanding of self-publishing shows up in the Manual. He
gives you the pros and cons of self-publishing, helps you
understand the costs, and details a calendar or time table so you
can get your publishing ducks in a row. He demystifies the terms
without pulling any punches. Self-publishing is far from simple;
the Manual makes it understandable and doable.
Poynter also gives you some information on publishing ebooks,
CDs and other ancillary items. But the emphasis is on books –
trade sized paperback books.
He starts by explaining why you should consider
self-publishing, and then tells you what makes a salable book. He
talks about both the writing and the designing of the book, and
the book’s cover. He not only urges you to begin marketing almost
at once, but shows you how to do it..
He even tells you how to cope with success. If you want to
self-publish, you simply must have this book.
The book is also available for download in .PDF format, but
that edition won't let you make notes, underline and other such
necessary markings. This is as much workbook as anything else.
