| The ABC's of POD: A Beginner's Guide to
Fee-Based Print-on-Demand Publishing is exactly that. Bailee
shares her own experience with the world of self-publishing. The
presentation is simple and direct. It's grounded in her own
experience and although lacking in the detail of say Poynter's
Self-Publishing Manual, or Levine's The Fine Print, the ABC's will
give you the basics of self-publishing. I particularly like her
emphasis on editing! And her chapters on the real costs of POD and
figuring royalties are excellent.
The book would be more useful if the table of contents had page
numbers, and I'm guessing she'll get those figured out for the
next edition, but until then it only gets four coffee cups from.
The glossary is useful; the book is short. I think anyone who is
considering self-publishing would do well to start with this book.
Bailee also has a database of many POD publishers on her site
at POD Database.
It looks like she plans to update it quarterly, which will truly
be helpful. At the moment it's free, but don't be surprised if
that changes over time - it probably should.
