Ha ha, I checked out your post and that was great. I need to bookmark your blog!

I know how you felt listening to that guy. I hate working in offices, I'm not corporate material, I don't want to be a phone-answering monkey worker for the rest of my life, and why did I go to college anyway? I'll never pay back all that money doing this junk anyway. That will keep me going: the possibility that I can leave this 8-5 slog behind and do something I actually enjoy doing, writing books. I'm getting older and it's time to stop mucking about and really make a go of it.

I may not succeed, but I know I won't if I don't try. The plethora of practical advice that's out there makes me think I actually can, because if no one ever made it, why would anyone even try to encourage new writers? We can't all be bestsellers, but a good solid fan base and a decent living would make me very happy.

I was at the recent Pennwriters conference and several speakers, including the two keynotes, spoke of the value of persistence in getting published. Thanks for another reminder. This is a topic we need to hear again and again.

Our little foray into technology gaffes inspired both of us. :-) I just released a post this morning about the trials & tribulations.

I guess my best example of my persistence is that I am still freelancing. I walked away from a 6-figure corporate job of 30+ years of industry experience. I am hardly at 6-figures in freelancing, but I don't care. I am doing something I've always wanted to do. I am persistent about it.

About 8 months into it, I attended an IABC conference where one of the panel members was a freelancer. He made a statement that worse case scenario, he could always return to his corporate job. That really resonated with me. It was at that point I knew that I would not do that. I would do everything I could to make my freelance business a success.

It hasn't been easy, but it has been so worth it. Passion will do that for you. That, and the need to eat. :-D
