Quotes to inspire writers

By not writing, one is obeying the urgent inner command not to define one’s self, not to grow and develop into that sad and limited creature, a minor (or possibly never-published) poet or whatever. Instead, one stays interestingly, potentially great the rest of one’s life.

~Victoria Nelson, from On Writer’s Block

Not writing keeps you flexible, too. You save a lot of clutter around the house, and you never have to worry about paying high income taxes. The benefits go on and on.

And since I can only effectively procrastinate on one thing at a time, avoiding the writing forces me to get other important things done. I have, for example, just washed all the lightbulbs in the master bathroom. Unfortunately, as I was doing so, I thought of an Indian monster to add to one of my 23 unfinished plays.
