Boy what a great collection of jobs! There are a couple there that I’m definitely going to take a look at. I’ve been doing some concentrating on getting tips about networking — trying to market not only myself but a prospective client. So I’ve been doing lots of reading, both online (here’s a link to one on building skills: http://www.prlog.org/10512729-build-your-networking-skills-one-step-at-time.html and at the book store and library, picking up some good books along the way. One of the books I got is “Networking Like a Pro,” by Ivan Misner, who’s considered the king of business growth. Many good tips in it — and I just found out that, because this week is International Networking Week, you can get not only the book, but also a six-month free membership to Networkingnow.com. I’m thinking of getting the book a second time, giving it (or selling it!) to a marketing/freelancer friend and then I’ll get the membership. Just a couple tips for this cold Monday morning.

Drat — I don’t think the link worked. Let me try again. I guess I need more coffee: You can cut and paste to this: http://ivanmisner.com/amazonbookbonus.html

I consider number 4 on today’s list “Wine Lover – Wine Enthusiast” an unethical ad.
It asks for a writer to paraphrase other writer’s wine tasting notes, i.e., it asks one writer to steal written work product from others. And, readers of the paraphrased material will not have any warning that the writer doing the paraphrasing never tasted the wines. There is here a clear intent on the part of the employer to mislead the public.
Nobody should compromise their own good reputation that way, in any event. But furthermore, to accept $10 an hour, for writing skills combined with knowledge of wines, one would have to be suffering extremely low self-esteem.
Thanks for the head’s up Scott. It certainly at least borders on questionable.
Paraphrasing, rewriting…it’s been going on since the dawn of time, and will continue. If I write about elephants, you can guarantee I will be basing my information off of other people’s articles about elephants, and like it or not at some point or another I’m going to write something that sounds exactly like what someone else already wrote about elephants, no matter how “differently” I word the article.
While 10 dollars an hour might seem low to you, don’t forget we are living in a world where the global community has access to these jobs. For someone living in the Philippines, Mexico, or other places in the world, that 10 dollars per hour is equivalent to upper middle management wages. It might not be so for you or I, but don’t be so quick to judge.
I personally wouldn’t ever write about wine for that rate, considering I am an enthusiast and more than a little knowledgeable on global wines after a decade of traveling around Europe and sampling based upon one of my favorite hobbies, but they (the employer) certainly has a right to hire employees from a global pool, and 10 bucks an hour is a fortune for certain people in the world, and I certainly don’t begrudge them the right to have access to such opportunities.
Best of luck.
Sad, too
I’m a wine freak and would love another wine gig. First time in about 6 months I’ve actively started looking for some new clients because I’ve got contracts that are coming to an end in February. Time to score some new digs. Papa needs a new vacation!

Thanks for the list, it is much appreciated.
