Aida Rogers, Editor. “Sandlapper covers the people, places, history and culture of South Carolina. Because it’s a quarterly with a statewide focus, space is tight and “newsy” subjects don’t work. If anything, Sandlapper is seasonal, with autumn, winter, spring and summer issues. We don’t cover fashion, politics, religion, or travel outside the state. Nor do we publish fiction or poetry. We do run an occasional essay. Our columns cover restaurants, cooking and books. The magazine, which is known for its fine color photography, is published by Sandlapper Society, Inc. The society is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization, which seeks to educate readers about South Carolina’s positive attributes.” 60% freelance. Welcomes new writers. Circ. 60k. Quarterly. Pays approximately 1 month after publication. Publishes ms approx. 1 year after acceptance. Buys first rights and right to reprint electronically. Authors and photographers retain the copyrights. No reprints. Responds up to 3 months. Sample for email request. Subscription $25. Guidelines by email or by mail with SASE. CURRENT NEEDS: “Sandlapper writers need to either live in South Carolina or be very familiar with the Palmetto State. We’re interested in humor and out-of-the-ordinary topics. (We don’t need a piece about someone’s vacation in Myrtle Beach or Charleston, for instance.)” Pays $100/published page for 500 to 2500 words. Send query and 2 clips or manuscript by mail with SASE or by email. PHOTOS/ART: Digital images at a minimum of 300 dpi. Prints accepted too. Pays $100/published page. HINTS: “Please look at back issues of the magazine to see what we’ve covered recently. Recognize that our readers either live here or did at one time, so they’ll grasp quickly if the writer is really familiar with South Carolina. Don’t send a generic ’southern’ piece about iced tea, good manners, or cornbread unless South Carolinians are quoted.”
  50. Bead&Button magazineP.O. Box 1612, Waukesha, WI 53187. P(262)796-8776. Email: editor-at-BeadAndButton.com. Website: http://www.BeadAndButton.com. Lora Groszkiewicz, Editorial Assistant. “As the complete beading resource, Bead&Button magazine publishes innovative and imaginative beaded-jewelry projects that challenge and inspire readers to learn, grow and excel. As helpful partners in beading, Bead&Button’s editors fully test step-by-step project instructions for clarity and dependability so that readers can master the skills needed to create beautiful, wearable jewelry. As advocates for the beading community, we nurture the craft of beading, we share our enthusiasm for beaded art and lampworking, and we educate people about the importance of beads and beadwork in history, culture and society.” 80% freelance. Welcomes new writers. Circ. 137K. Bi-monthly. Pay upon acceptance. Publishes ms 4-12 months after acceptance. Buys all rights. Accepts reprints. Responds 1-6 weeks. Sample $5.95. Subscription $28.95; $38 outside the U.S. Guidelines online at http://www.beadandbutton.com/bnb/default.aspx?c=a&id=204.
CURRENT NEEDS: “We are always looking for beautiful and innovative step-by-step jewelry projects. We sometimes accept queries for artist profiles (see Bead&Button).” Pays $75-$300 for complete jewelry projects; $150-$400 for non-project features of 1000 words. Use the submissions page for project articles. Email feature-article queries to editor-at-BeadAndButton.com.
PHOTOS/ART: “Photographs must be 300 dpi.” Payment is included above.
HINTS: “Bead&Button is a niche magazine for the jewelry-maker who loves to stitch small beads and other jewelry materials together with a needle and thread. It is not for the general reader. If you wish to submit a query for a profile of a bead work artist or a bead-maker, please review several issues of the magazine before making a proposal.”

Know what’s funny? Whoever copied the one about the online men’s magazine didn’t copy the links to their site. And given their requirements, there’s no way one can apply for that! LOL Certainly not your fault, Anne, but someone at RealMatch missed some key info. :)
