You may remember that Angela and Richard Hoy of Booklocker, the independent book publisher and print on demand company sued online bookseller Amazon .com when the retailer started insisting POD publishers use their own POD company, BookSurge. The suit claims antitrust violations against Amazon because the retailer is discriminating against other POD publishers.
It’s a long saga and the suit has been wending its way through the justice system. A milestone was reached on the 26th when Chief U.S. District Judge John Woodcock Jr. issued a 26 page order denying Amazon’s motion to dismiss.
According to a post at Publisher’s Weekly, this means, among other things, that discovery can begin before long. The Hoy’s will now be able to request and get documents from Amazon concerning the issues in this case.

Hmm… I wondered how Amazon was getting away with that, esp. since they only except kindle renditions from the one self-publisher. Thanks for the links, Anne.

Yeah, it’s an interesting question. Amazon of course owns the Kindle so they can do what they want. Kinda like Apple owns macs and can do what they want but pc’s sort of took over the world.
