6 Links To Better Grammar – Resource Roundup Tuesday

in Blogs, Etc. Helpful Freelance Writers,How Tos & Samples

[tuesday]I have a confession to make. I don’t know many rules of grammar. I was brought up by parents who spoke good English and I mostly rely on my ear to tell me if something is grammatically correct or not. Which means I get stuck once and awhile.

Here are some sources I tend to use when I have a question about grammar and other usage:

  1. The Elements of Style by William Strunk. This classic is completely online now. If you want a hard copy, which I find useful, you can buy one here: The Elements of Style: 50th Anniversary Edition.
  2. Grammar Rock - this one is new to me, but it looks like it might be useful for earning or teaching.
  3. Grammar Resources – this list by the University of Chicago is so reassuring, pointing out that different sources will tell you different things.
  4. The Grammar Vandal is a blog that points out grammar problems – it’s fun to read and I always learn something in the process.
  5. Lowercase L – okay it’s not grammar, but it’s fun. It’s a collection of poorly spelled hand written signs.
  6. The Grammar Girl, subtitled Quick & Dirty Tips for Better Writing. Worth a look for sure.

Do you have a grammar resource you like? Tell us about it.

Write well and often,

Anne

Here’s a good strategy for improving writing style.

I am the same boat as you. I don’t know too many grammar sites, but I love checking http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/errors.html to see if I have a word or phrase right.
