[tuesday]Queries are letters to publishers and / or agents asking if they’d be interested in your article or your book. Those letters are critical. They give you an opportunity to show off your writing and, if not properly handled, can mark you as an amateur or worse. Here are some links that you may find helpful:
- Agents and Editors Blog Worst Queries – Query Fail Day. As so often happens with social media I’m not quite sure what this is all about, but it does seem like fun even tho’ I’m vague about it. Not to get too sidetracked, but there was some debate about the day and Nathan Bransford launched his own positivity week.
- Janet Reid, Literary Agent has a great post called Things to skip in queries for fiction. I can promise you her list works for non-fiction books and for articles as well. Good stuff.
- How To Write A Query Letter by literary agent Jill Corcoran who is with the Herman Agency Inc. also writes. In this post she shares not only how she gets queries written, but a ton of resources from other agents. A book-markable list, imo.
- Beneath the Cover has a four part series called Queries.
- The Renegade Writer has posted a magazine query that resulted in a sale then interviewed the editor about it. Nifty.
