in Freelance Writing Jobs

Writing JobsIt’s Friday and we’ve got 70 writing jobs, blogging jobs, editing jobs, translation jobs and other opportunities. Not bad.

As the jobs increase, and I think they will for quite awhile now, I find I’m spending more and more time posting them. Not surprising, but not something I’d planned for. I’m wondering, it seems my options are to stop posting or to hire someone. Am I missing something else? It takes me about 2-1/2 – 3 hours to get the jobs up and the newsletter written and sent. Is there a way for me to do it more quickly? Ideas appreciated.

Hi Anne,
I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate this post on jobs so much. I look forward to it on the three days a week you post it. That being said, I know other people from writing forums that I frequent also look forward to your job posts. My suggestion would be to hire me to post it for you! I would gladly do this for as I know how much it has benefitted me and I would hate to see it go away. Let me know what you think about this suggestion.
Thanks,
Tiffany

Wow–that’s a lot of your time spent wrangling up the leads and posting them. I certainly appreciate it!

I have no suggestions, other than to directly contact other sites that post job leads and ask them how they do it. Maybe they’ll have pearls of wisdom. :)

You need an intern! He or she could be your assistant, both in your freelance writing business, and in compiling these listings. The assistant gets valuable training, and you get valuable time back.

Hmmm, how do I get an intern? Colleges?

Hi Ann,
You are doing an awesome jobs with the leads however I want to caution people about applying to two of the postings which appear harmless enough but seem to be quite dubious when you contact the poster.
16.# Travel directory looking for writer
The poster of this ad is a gent called Michael Faircloth who says that he is building a travel directory and will employ full time travel writers in due course who will be compensated with a salary of 50K plus perks. Following which he adds :-
During our content gathering phase we will base pay on each individual’s unique financial situation. As a start up company trying to get its feet off the ground, we will be ideally looking for people whose passion for the project is greater than their immediate need for instant financial gratification. Now wouldn’t you be suspicious after reading this as there are a host of other details that he requires as well, including details of your vacation choices and experiences? Its no wonder that the ad keeps getting reposted all over the net.
The second dubious advert is 54. Online Article Writer – pay not Stated
This has just been removed as a note from the hiring manager directed you to the website http://www.freelancehomewriters.com.
I just wanted to let you know and once again thank you for the wonderful job that you are doing for all of us.

Please don’t stop the posts! I can’t live without them!

Well, perhaps I can, but I just want to say thanks for all you do! I think getting an intern would be great . . . Try colleges or advertise on Craigslist! :) Advertise on your own site, too!

Yeah…that freelancehomewriters.com site is definitely a huge scam! They are very sneaky, they post something that looks legit so sites like this one will link to it. Then when you send an email for more info, they suddenly reveal who they really are, and bug you nonstop to pay THEM for the privilege of writing. Stay far, far away. If you search on that name, you will find a lot of angry people out there who were duped by them.

Remember: NEVER pay someone to write for them!

Anne: I agree too that an intern may be a great idea. You can advertise at colleges, sure, but also check out mediabistro.com, and places like journalismjobs.com. I know Media Bistro has an ad/job lead section for unpaid/intern jobs (Jobs/Duration/Internship).

People who work for themselves and do a g00d job of it eventually come to a point where they have too much work and need help. Hiring people, or getting an intern is easier said than done. It depends on your goals. I love reading your job postings. Maybe you could just do it once a week or something? (and yes, NEVER pay someone to write for them!)

Oh, Anne, I look forward to these posts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! Of course, I completely understand about how much time it’s taking up. Getting an intern sounds like a good idea (just make sure s/he doesn’t slack and ruin the excellent reputation you’ve built for providing great job opportunities). Whatever you decide to do, I sincerely hope it works!

Virgo27… it can seem tough to get started, but once you get freelancing going it’s pretty easy to keep it going. Hang in there.
