Thank you for the suggestions about the Confidential matters! I will definitely do that before I undertake any other projects; and, thank you, too, for the comment about blogs.

Deb, if you want to write training and product manuals you may find that the companies in question will give you the right to used some of the material for purposes of demonstrating your skill; it may be worth asking. The other way to handle this is to do a brief description, perhaps stating the problem you solved and explaining you are under a non-disclosure agreement.

Finally a blog can do exactly what you want and you may make some money with it as well.

I really appreciate this advice. All my writing samples over the years (training documents and Product Manuals) are confidential and the property of the companies I worked for at the time, so I have NO tearsheets! I am using my blog to demonstrate both my capabilities in Computers, and my writing competencies. Is this a bad idea?

This definitely resonates with me, as I try to get my freelance writing career off the ground. While I am a technical writer by training & experience, I do eventually want to get into other types of writing as well, so coming up with other examples is crucial for me. Article sites are a great way for me to practice other styles of writing, as well as getting some visibility as well. I'm currently using Helium.com for that. While I blog on a couple of sites, I don't currently have one on my freelance site, although that's something I want to add in the future.
